Setting Up Your Permalinks: Do This Before Writing Your First Post!
Setting up your permalinks – do this before publishing your first post!

Quick! Quick! You must make sure your posts have the best possible permalinks!

Permalinks for self-hosted blogs

Before you do anything else, go into your WordPress dashboard and click on Settings – Permalinks. See photo above.

The Permalink is the posts URL.  The permalink for this post is:

www.blogforfunnotprofit.com/how-to-set-up-permalinks-URLS

Click on Post name and then click Save changes.

Whew, you’re done.

You don’t want any dates messing up your post URLs. It looks bad and is not great for SEO and you may well change the post dates down the track.

Take my word for it, you want Post name as your permalink.

Permalinks/URLs on free WordPress.com sites

You can’t set your own permalinks on a free Wordress.com site.  But for each post, you can go to Settings – More Options – Slugs and set a good post URL there. Don’t forget the hyphens!

All done?  Then on to the next post.
